The nature of anthropology - the study of humankind in all times and places. The development of anthropology - study wouldn"t ourish because there was no means of transportation. Developed as europeans wanted to expand trade/political domination to all parts of the world. Europeans did not recognize that they shared a basic humanity with everyone. (when one nation dominates another, through occupation, administration and control of resources thereby creating a dependant) Cultural imperialism : promoting one nation"s beliefs, values, and behaviour above all others. The west dominated others with technology, religion, political organization, economy and lifestyle. Started to consider other people, relevant to understanding themselves. Efforts to explain reality in terms of natural law were increasing, casting doubts on biblical mythology. Discipline arose from attempts to offer scienti c explanations for human diversity. Concept of cultural progress that all cultures passed through evolutionary stages until they reached the technologically advanced level of western societies.
