The students in the class took part in a brain-storming session in which they tried to idenify things that might possibly reduce the welfare of animals used by human beings. In a session that lasted about an hour they managed to ill the blackboard with items. Many students in the class were able to contribute. All the things that were ideniied in the brain-storming session are listed below having been roughly sorted into diferent categories. I have added some things that have been ideniied by previous classes. Unusual social mix (all same sex, all same age) Poor air quality (high ammonia, other toxic gases, high dust, high humidity) Guard dogs too aggressive so can"t be adopted when reired. Compeiive sled dogs exposed to extreme condiions and overworked. Horses/donkeys/mules no proper veterinary care/hoof care in third-world countries. Horses/donkeys/mules ill- iing equipment (harnesses, bridles, etc. ) in third-world countries.
