Price involved in feeding the cattle is a good example. The process of milking: clean and pre-dip, strip, attach machine, adjust placement and monitor milk flow, shut off vacuum and remove machine (some have automatic take off, post-dip, rinse machine. Three main types: parallel, herringbone - *most popular in ontario, rotary, robotic milker - *not quite parlor style. Cows are normally fed after milked to reduce the chance of infections. Keeps them standing so teat canals can close, can take up to 20 minutes. Cows visits the robotic milker 2. 5 times a day. Quality milk production = dry matter intake (dmi) + water intake + rest. There is no management in a feed bag. Cows free to access robot at any time. Need to offer more feed at robot: pmr (partial mixed ration) Number of cows to fetch: ~15% of herd, labour. Cows must pass from stall to robot to feed bunk. Reduced cow fetches: only 5% = reduced labour.
