Close relationships are: important, interdependent, and long lasting. Can evoke intense feelings both positive and negative. Values on love and marriage linked to cultural values and economic health. Romantic love not linked to better marriages (higher expectations = more pressure) 41% of the next-door neighbours indicated they were close friends. 22% of those who lived two doors apart. 10% who lived on opposite ends of the hall. Certain features of faces are reliably associated with attractiveness. Babies prefer attractive faces: beauty is subjective. Different cultures improve beauty in different ways. Different body types are judged to be more attractive in different parts of the world. Body type standards vary over time: what makes a person attractive. Men rate women with waists 1/3 narrower than hips as more attractive. Women rate men with a v-shaped physique are more attractive. Women who have large eyes, prominent cheekbones, small noses, and a wide smile are judged more attractive.
