Effective through indirect means of exploitation: militarily & politically , indirect because periphery is judicially sovereign , in order for one group to rise up (periphery & core) the other must be exploited, degraded, etc. Integration international economic system is bene cial for everybody ! Peripheral states have to structural their political and economic systems in a way that allows core states to extract signi cant sums of resources and capital that the core societies draw from peripheral areas! Bias in favour of core societies ! Export monoculture: solely dependent on one resource - everything dependent on export of one product, entire survival depends on it ! Unequal exchange : biased terms of trade - instituted by gatt and subsequently by wto, gatt/wto ! Periphery stays dependent on the core due to extreme dependency : indebted dependence on the core , transportation and insurance costs !
