Everyone that we are going to read on the problem of free will is going to be responding to this problem in some way or another. If determinism is true, then we can"t be free in any way where we would be morally responsible for our actions. If determinism is false, we also can"t be free in any way that allows us to be morally responsible for our actions. Therefore, we cannot be morally responsible for our actions. The view that every event is caused by another event in such a way that given the state of the universe at the time and the laws of nature, what happens next is inevitable human actions, objects, etc. You may feel you have a choice but (if determinism is true) that is simply an illusion. It is not that what was going to happen was pre-destined, or meant to happen, or the universe was set at a certain goal.
