Chapter 13: anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and related disorders - pp. Chapter 23: somatic symptom disorders and dissociative disorders - pp. Hospital admission is necessary only if the anxiety or symptoms interfere with the i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual"s health or if the i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual is suicidal. Structure the daily routine to offer physical safety and predictability reducing anxiety of the unknown. Provide daily activities to promote sharing and cooperation. Provide therapeutic interactions including one-on-one nursing care and behaviour contracts. Nutrition and fluid intake: patients may be too involved with their anxiety to eat and drink. Weighing patients frequently is useful in assessing nutrition. Personal hygiene and grooming: maintenance of skin integrity when there is excessive washing, or some people may be too indecisive to pick what to wear- try offering less options.
