Diagnostics: bone scan, ct, or mri may be used because the sensitivity of these tests can determine early joint changes. There is no cure, so care focuses on managing pain and inflammation and preventing disability and maintaining and improving joint function. Non-pharmacological interventions are the foundation for oa management: rest and joint protection: affected joint should be rested, with splints or braces if necessary. But immobilization should not exceed one week: head and cold applications: may help reduce pain and stiffness, nutritional therapy and exercise: maintain healthy body weight to decrease the load of the joints. Patients with mild/moderate joint pain may have acetaminophen. Topical agent such as capsaicin cream may be beneficial.
