NURS 489 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Posterior Tibial Artery, Popliteal Fossa, Pulmonary Valve
Document Summary
Physical examination and health assessment. (2nd cdn ed), pp. 475-518 (head and neck vessels), 519-545 (peripheral vascular system and lymphatic system). Precordium: area of the anterior chest overlying the heart and great vessels. The heart goes from the 2nd intercostal space to the 5th intercostal and extends form the right border of the sternum to the left midclavicular line. S1: occurs with closure of the av valves and signals the beginning of systole (the m1 mitral component slightly proceeds the t1- tricuspid component). S2: closure of semilunar valves and signals the end of systole. The aortic component (a2) slightly precedes the pulmonic component (p1) This shortens the left ventricular systole: when the closing of the aortic valve is heard separately than the pulmonic valve, this is a split s2. S3: when vibrations of diastole are heard= s3. This happens when the ventricles are resistant to filling. (occurs immediately after s2)
