Gong ageng- largest/lowest of all the hanging gongs in the ensemble. 3 drums- situated roughly in the middle of the ensemble. All arranged at right angles to each other. All have different sizes so they"re different pitches. Lowest meaning that its the largest so it has the lowest pitch. End-accented rhythmic cycle (first encountered with vietnamese music) Most important beat of the rhythmic cycle in southeast asia is the last beat. Without the top three layers, we don"t have a polyphonic stratification. Different categories in the gamelan that perform different roles in the ensemble.
