Modern prisons reinforce ideological notions about criminals that justify repression of lower classes, therefore supporting class structure of the cabinet. Lower classes threatened to drag the upper classes down "contamination" Prisons maintained structure of capitalism and structures of capitalist oppression: assumed that blacks committed more crime than any other groups. Disapproval of mixed-race relations = lots of black men in jail for rape. Sexual hierarchy: female criminals: crime + contravention of norms.
