Indigenous settlements in canada first popped up around 30,000 bc. The population of the indigenous peoples at the time ranged from around 500,000 to. These tribes adapted to the various environments of the area and created complex cultures, sophisticated technologies, and learned to change and adapt over time. By the time other civilizations first contacted the first nations in canada, there were fifty distinct cultures in the region and 12 language groups. These tribes had established extensive networks of trade and cultural exchange. Starting in 1670, the british established a fur trading post on the hudson bay. From 1656 until 1763, the seven years" war happened. In 1713, the treaty of utrecht was signed. From 1725 until 1779, the peace and friendship treaties were in place, which marked an era of peace between the british and the indigenous peoples. In 1760, the treaties of peace and neutrality were signed.
