Document Summary

Excretion is the amount of ltrate which is ltered across bowman"s capsule minus that which is reabsorbed back into to blood plus that which is secreted from blood into tubule. Clearance: rate at which a particular substance disappears from the blood. This is a non invasive method of measuring glomerular ltration rate using inulin or creatinine. Clearance is important to know for calculating the correct dosages of some drugs such as penicillin. A decrease clearance means a substance is retained in blood. So we are not clearing or removing that substance from our body. Higher concentration of a substance in plasma means you have a higher ltered load of that substance. With higher ltration rate (gfr) of a substance, you have higher ltered load. Inulin: ltered across bowman"s capsule, but is not either reabsorbed or secreted. Because its not reabsorbed or secreted, the ltered load of inulin equals gfr.
