KNES 259 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Chemical Synapse, Synaptotagmin 1, Simple Series Video Games
Document Summary
Synapse occurs between terminal end bulb of pre-synaptic neuron and the dendrite or cell body of a post-synaptic neuron. Synapse is the space between 2 neurons. Cns contains neurons that are organized into neuro-circuits, which are functional groups of neurons that process speci c types of information. Circuits are located in di erent regions of the brain. In a simple series circuit, one pre-synaptic neuron would stimulate one post synaptic neuron. Convergence: many neurons (non-simultaneously, so at di erent times) come to stimulate one neuron. Advantage: we can integrate di erent info coming from separate neurons to get an output. So there is increased control of output of post synaptic neuron. Divergence: one neuron (master controller) stimulating multiple post-synaptic neurons at the same time. Advantage: more e cient, because one stimulus is creating the same e ect in multiple neurons at once. Pre-synaptic neuron: conducts action potential towards synapse. Synaptic knob: extended or dilated region of the axon.
