Le guin seemed to fall into the traps of magic that tolkien has menioned she uses it as an easy escape for the hero quite oten (hero turns into a tern to escape the sinking ship. Magic felt very outlandish, it has become a lost art in this world. A more complex version/interpretaion of human idenity: the characters are geing more complex. Le guin looks at the messy lives that people lead. Focus on social class (the king, the slaves, and oter in the middle) Seems like it doesn"t have a tradiional quest narraive. Implicaions and subtle hints at diferent races in this world. Final project idea: write a poem that talks about the journey through grade school to graduaion, or grade school to a university degree. Compare it to lotr quest, or the lack of quest in earthsea the. Oter faces this dilemma, frodo goes on the journey to serve/save the shire.
