Some forms of writing are more permanent and more monumental than others. : it"s foreign to think about someone writing for the first time. In oral cultures, all you have is what is remembered. The transmission of knowledge is dependant on memory and effort. This has important significance, because once ideas are written, they can be engaged with. It engages in a series of canon, and ideas can be added on etc. Once writing became widely available, example in greece, new kinds of documents come with knowledge of the past. Physical evidence of agreements are available, this is one of the first use of writing according to some historians. Information can travel in the absence of the knower and persist through time. Through mobile forms of media, knowledge can move to different parts of the world. Important political implications come as a result of this.
