Document Summary

Reality: the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. It"s important to know how a study was conducted what methods were used and what kinds of conclusions were found. Concerned with the meaning people attach to things in their lives. We can never escape all of our assumptions or biases, and we all approach our research with some goals and questions in mind. What is more important than neutrality is awareness of one"s own perspective and honesty about where one stands when research findings are reported. Qualitative methods can help explain, illuminate, and give meaning to quantitative data. Self-reflexivity: having awareness of who you are and how it can influence your work. Develop concepts, insights, and understandings from patterns in the data rather than collecting data to assess preconceived models, hypotheses, or theories.
