Main idea: relationships are characterized by the ongoing, constant management of. Tension is produced by opposing or contradictory forces (ie. dialectics) that people experience in their relationships. Most common dialectics between relationship & outside world. Baxter uses mikhail bakhtin"s model of dialectics, which posits that dialectical tension is ongoing connection.
