• Figurative art:

o Depicts recognizable objects, events etc.
o Shows things as we would see them in the everyday world.
• Abstract art:
o Characteristic modern art, eg. Braque, Picasso
o Depicts abstract shapes, lines, etc, in ways that isolate formal elements.
o Tries to reproduce mental experience.

>Imitiation theory in Art: General assumption that art is in some sense a representational or imitation of
the world. Covers most philosophies or theories of art before 1900, and general understanding of art.
