Cultural claims about youth crime are gradually being debunked. Negative immigrant experiences are being tied to higher rates of crime. Youth crime improved in periods of intense military recruitment. In canada aboriginals make up the highest percentage of the criminal population (~60%+, substance abuse, poverty, sexual/physical violence more common) Most likely to come from communities where substance abuse, poverty and violence are common. In the uk afro-carribeans have higher crime rates than whites and other minorities. Us: african americans and hispanics have higher rates of crime than whites. Poverty, ghettoization, not having access to good schools/education. Certain ethnic racial groups that are overrepresented as criminal population. Typically african americans targeted by police (in us), and aboriginals (in canada) In the us in the last few years cases of racial profiling and police brutality against black youth have led to series of protests. The #blacklivesmattermovement was the result of several deaths, most notably that of trayvon.
