Teens tend to find out about sexual matters from their peers or school. Later sexual activity tends to be (shockingly) related to higher social class. Muslims and hindus tend to have later first sexual experiences than christians or jews. Family structure matters, divorced parents" children tend to have first sexual experiences earlier. Single parent has less ability to monitor their teen children, more permissive attitudes. Linked to less supervision and (probably) more open attitudes about sex. Though as we"ve seen premarital sex is today more acceptable than in the past youth sexuality remains a site of intense discursive battles. While this is generally cast as a right vs left (conservative vs progressive) issue the discourses are much more complex. First, second and third waves feminism have different views of appropriate representations. Pornography is a special area of concern since high levels of consumption among teens are seen as affecting their nascent sexuality.
