Canadians rely on the idea of a raceless society as we are multicultural - this makes us resistant to anti-racist initiatives. It provides us a framework for political/social/cultural structures of inequality based on race. It creates and perpetuates a system of dominance based on race. Ex mass media, schools, religion, arts, music, lit. The most complex aspect : it is elusive and ever changing. It occurs at the level of : individual, groups, organizations, institutions and overall society. Race and racism: is socially constructed and fluid. Stuart hall: no natural and universal law historically specific assumes forms according to present society . It is very subtle their normal isn"t our normal: target may not even notice. Ex: starbucks asked somali kids to leave because they were done their coffee. The children denied that was racist as they said when you"re done your coffee, you leave - it"s normal.
