Document Summary

22% of the canadian population is foreign born. Canada welcomes about 260,000 newcomers each year-looking at raising this to half a million recently. As we age, more people are leaving the working force, so canada relies on this international migration. The situation today is les orderly because of critical regions of the world. International migrants are not only in the high income countries as shown there is lots in low income and medium income countries and this is often where the people are refugees. Canada is unique in how accepting it is to new immigants. Some counties in europe seem to be doing better than others. More accepting if: have higher employability, have more consistent asylum testimonies, have severe vulnerabilities, are christian rather than muslim. Public preferences over asylum seekrers are shaped by sociotropic evaluations of their potential economic contributions, humanitarian concerns about the deservingness of their claims, and anti-muslim bias.
