Girls swearing: masculinity: set of cultural expectations, values, roles that define what it means to be a socially acceptable man (ex. strong, masculinity and femininity are categories of gender, categories of sex: male or female. Hegemonic masculinity and femininity: dominant form of masculinity in society that espouses men - strong, aggressive, self - reliant, free from traditional female characteristics. Hegemonic femininity: refers to dominant form of femininity that women should be - weak, dependent. Sociology tends to emphasize influence of society in shaping of gendered subjects, processes, and institutions. Transgender: gender id and biological sex do not neatly align, trans folk face disproportionate amounts and discrimination on an ongoing basis, this results in violence cause of belief that sex and gender should align. Gender relations in work: non-standard of precarious employment is increasingly common - employment that has irregular and often inconvenient hours, no benefits, no security - like mcdonalds.
