It has gained independence (gained its own identity) Women or gender roles in general have changed. Religion is less prominent then it used to be. You need to distinguish between society wide culture vs. smaller group cultures. Cultures are frequently contested, especially in modern society. They protest war, are anti-capitalism, they are more environmentally focused, pro-marijuana, pro-peace, anti- industrialization, and much more. A counter-culture arises in direct opposition to the dominant culture. It rejects some of the core values of the dominant culture. They take on lifestyles and appearances that distinguish themselves from mainstream cultures. There may be illegal (hells angels) and legal counter cultures. Abstract qualities considered important by participants in a culture (for example education, diversity, freedom of speech, religion,) Rules and standards of behaviors that is expected of a group/society/culture.
