Serious cow disease that has severe implications for agricultural sector. Healthy cows will be killed as a precaution. Trade suspended between countries that have fmd to prevent it from coming into canada. It affects primarily cloven-hoofed domestic and wildlife animals: bison, elephants, cows, armadillos, etc, difficult to control wild animals, prevent them from entering affected areas. A virus enters cells and multiplies. Not usually fatal for larger animals, but they are chronically sick and there are economic impacts from this. The most devastating livestock disease present world-wide, according to experts. Usually (cid:272)o(cid:374)sidered a disease that refle(cid:272)ts (cid:862)e(cid:272)o(cid:374)o(cid:373)i(cid:272) de(cid:448)elop(cid:373)e(cid:374)t(cid:863) Absent from developed countries for the most part. Canada and us had fmd in the 30s but eradicated it. Uk had it in the early 2000s. Inactivated at: ph below 6. 5, above 11, ultra-high pasteurization, dry surfaces and uv light (good bc sunlight will destroy it on ground w/o a lot of litter)
