Positive afterimage: never confuse it with the object. Cant tell between persistence and object youre looking at. Past retina, but not too high in visual system. Decreases with display duration: more energy=shorter persistence, measured with the dot matrix task. 5x5 matrix of dots with one missing; report its location. Present one display of 12 dots followed by another of 12. Task is easy if 1st and 2nd display simultaneously visible; impossible if not. Easy if pause between images is short, can still visualize it in your mind (visual persistence) Longer the first image is there, less likely to be visible in your mind after its removed. Accuracy in task decreases: opposite to neural persistence. Information that is no longer visible is still available for some tasks (not actually looking at it in your mind like neural and visual: measured with partial report and variations. Still have some idea of what and where items were, even though not visible.
