3 factors that affect social perception: characteristics of the target. Sometimes certain physical features can generate automatic assumptions about that person/target. Took people into a photoshop morphing thing put wrinkles on them perceived as more wise. Have a big influence on how we interpret other people. A learned knowledge structure derived from past experiences that is used to interpret new experiences. People looked at situation and make rational decisions about it based on whatever information is there. How people go from observing other people"s behavior in a situation and try to come up with causes for that person"s behavior. Locus of causality: internal causation, does the cause come from within the person something about that person inherent about that person, their personality, etc, external causation, does the cause come from outside the person. Stability of cause: stable, always there; constant, unstable, it varies over time sometimes there, sometimes not. Ask kids why they did well on a test:
