Psychology is a science because we are able to use the scientific method. Operationalization is creating your own definition of a variable so that if the experiment is replicated, it will give the same results. Case studies are not representative because they are not representative we cannot make a casual conclusion or generalize within the group. They are used only when anomalies occur, they bring phenomena to life. Case studies tend to be very specific and can contradict theories. For example split brain: case study in which a person has two different consciousness". Occurs when the brains are separated, but still develop together nerve damage to the bridge can cause this. However it has only happened once and by complete mistake. An experiment is a manipulation of a variable, to determine the correlation between it and another variable. A reasercher will also try to controle any other factors that could possibly affect the outcomes of the experiment.
