Retrieval:process of bringing to mind encoded and stored information. Elaborative encoding: process of actively relating new information to knowledge that is already memory. Visual imagery encoding: process of storing new information by converting it into mental pictures. To relate incoming knowledge to knowledge that is already in memory. Useful for remembering the order of items. The process of maintaining information in memory over time. Differ based on how long the information is retained. Holds sensory information for a few seconds or less. Lingering trace stored in memory for a very short period. Iconic memory: fast-decaying (1 second) store of visual information. Echoic memory: fast-decaying (5 seconds) store of auditory information. Holds information for more than a few second but less than a minute. Working memory: active maintenance of information in short-term storage.
