Document Summary

*remeber: highest good is good will, not happiness. Duty arises generally from a law (or the representation of the law) Impose on you because you are a member of a certain group. Ie: as a student that is a member of the university of albert, you are bound by the laws/rules of the university. Can always refuse to be a member or opt out. These rules are applied to you because you have a desire (like to obtain a degree). Absolute duties = unconditional (not dependant on any of your interests or desires) Imposed on you because you are rational. Do not require prior inclinations or interests. The difference between absolute duties and moral duties is that absolute duties come from the outside; they are imposed upon us. Moral duties come from ourselves; they are apart of us. What makes us human is this moral duty, that is apart of us. Law has no content -> form of lawfulness.
