Document Summary
Hierarchy of evidence for questions of efficacy (quantitative research) Original study conducted by researcher, report new or original experimental work. A literature review is an account of what has been published on a topic by accredited scholars and researchers. Not new research, just find research relating to your topic and appraising to see if it can be used for systematic review/meta-analysis. Systematic reviews summarize the results of rcts and provide a high level of evidence on the effectiveness of interventions. Judgments may be made about the evidence and inform recommendations for healthcare. A more transparent search, appraisal and synthesis. Produces useful evidence to guide healthcare decisions. Identifies gaps where the evidence is insufficient and where new trials are required. If we can combine a group of studies the sample size is large enough to see an effect if one exists (better power!!!)
