Chapter 6 - research as a basis for practice. Evidence informed practice: provides a safety net for hcp ass it enables them to make accurate and appropriate clinical decisions. Combination of research evidence and clinical experience evidence to produce best possible care. Need to keep relevant and current with info. Major source of new knowledge is research. Books can be outdated as it takes time to publish, articles are more up to date. Nurses have limited access to some of the latest research. Problem focused trigger: a question a nurse faces while caring for a patient or a trend witnessed on a unit. Knowledge focused trigger: question seeking new info available on a topic. Question you ask will eventually lead you to the evidence required for the answer. Can search for evidence once you have a pico question. Refer to hierarchy of evidence (strongest is rct and systematic reviews, weakest is opinions).
