Restricted or constricted affect: mildly reduced in range and intensity of emotion. Bipolar: manic depressive disorder change from previous functioning (severity) duration of at least 2 weeks clinically significant distress or impairment. Major depressive disorder one or more major depressive episodes (loss of interest and pleasure in nearly all avitivies for at least 2 weeks) progressive, or worsened over time sleep disturbances appetite changes decreased energy. Milder but more chronic form of major depressive disorder depressed mood for most days over 2 years. Depressive disorder not otherwise specified strict depressive criteria not met. Neurobiological hypothesis: major depression is caused by dysregulation or deficiency in the cns concentrations of neurotransmitters (includes neuroendocrine and neuropeptide hypothesis and psychoneuroimmunology) Psychological factors: include psychodynamic factors, behavioural factors and developmental factors. Social theories: includes family factors and social factors. Middle insomnia: waking up in the middle of sleep and having trouble returning to sleep.
