Behavioral approach - lalonde study (1970) shifted emphasis from med behavioral approach to health; health determinants defined as lifestyle (active, smoker? environment, human biology, org of hc; place responsibility for health on individual. Socio environmental approach - health = tied to social structures; poverty, unhealthy physical and social env. Framework to guide practice involves: person, env, nursing, health. Low birth weight children = 43% higher incidence in poor neighborhoods.
