Short-term & long-term storage - control of the environment. Steps of analysis of textile problem: break down problem into manageable segments. Collect any other needed information: trust own judgement and not be overly in uenced by wearer/cleaner. Many misconceptions regarding textiles and their cleaning: examine the textile and damage very carefully. What is the evidence and how does it con rm the cause of the problem: write a hypothesis of what you think may have happened. May have multiple hypotheses initially: test hypothesis to prove or disprove. These test duplicate what is wrong with the textile to prove hypothesis. Do writing to describe what has occurred and assign responsibility to certain procedures. Use knowledge of textiles and cleaning to determine problem, and any resources available. Some problems are impossible to solve, or require destructive testing and unavailable resources. With cleaning we try to minimize damage occurring.
