HECOL370 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Statistical Hypothesis Testing
Document Summary
Sometimes test results should be rejected and another specimen tested as a replacement. Jaw break: specimen breaks at the edge of the jaws or clamps holding it. Jaw prevents specimen from contraction in width as force is applied. Sometimes not possible to prevent the beak from occurring at the edge. If jaws/clamps are cutting or overly compressing fabric, then reject and test another specimen. Specimen slippage: specimen slips from between the clamps holding it. Can occur in any test where fabric is clamped. Longer or larger portion of fabric ows in test area; making results inaccurate. Some fabrics are thin, slippery and strong making them hard to grip. Lining the clamps may increase friction and hold specimens better. Line drawn on specimen edge of clamp is used to measure ow out from the clamp during testing. Faulty machine operation: if any sort of failure or fault in the machine operation, then result will not be valid.
