The 18th century: 1700-1800 the artifact of the day the capote. Types of garments in mens wear : undress half dress full dress. Undress: when relaxing . men wore indian gowns or banyans and might take off their wigs and wear a nightcap. Phase 1: 170-1750: coat: knee length, deep cuffs, fuller skirts, after 1720 not always fully unbuttoned in front, waistcoat: only a little shorter than the coat, shortens with time, breeches: reached to the knee, wigs: Move towards smaller and less expensive styles. To existing styles, add powder and greater variety. Longer hair remains but now in tailed or knots: 1748: rediscovery of pompeii. Phase 2: 1750-1780: the grand tour, the greek and roman extreme inspiration and influences, men clothes. Coatl curves at center front, becomes more adjusted and cuffs get smaller. Breeches: get more closely fitted: love of classical statuary. Greek and roman sculptors specialized in portraying the body through the clothes.
