Some civilizations benefited from the annual flooding of the nile river (more fertile land) Egypt and mesopotamia = in contact but evolved in separate directions. Result of prosperity: invaders wanted the land. Deserts on both sides to offer protection from invaders -> less invaders = less changes. Uniform climate - warm and uniform climate all year round. Ecology offered changes for both egypt and mesopotamia. Form of writing known as hieroglyphic: abundance of written records about life and religion, like rosetta stone (instrumental in advancing modern understanding of hieroglyphs. Pyramids and temples (many recycled into newer buildings) Statues and carved wall reliefs: artists = depicted of humans in daily activities, visuals not absolute fidelity in depiction of clothing, visual conventions, convention not equal to truth. Representation of some costume forms in art may have lagged behind their actual adoption. Other types may not have been depicted at all.
