Mg bacteria invade mg cells which lyse releasing bacteria. Posterior station ingests bacteria which replicate in mg cells, voided with feces; enter when scratched; aerosol transmission is possible. Each geographic region has its typical strain, immunologically different; surface antigenic shifting. Lice crushed on body surface, scratching provides minor abrasion for entry, mucous membranes. No symptoms in cats, and can be spread to humans after cat bite or scratch. Mg haemolymph/ other tissues; no salivary glands or ovarian tissues, or feces. Several weeks after initial infection fever, general malaise, aches, cough, low bp&coma, Non-specific, head and muscle aches, fever, nausea; infections are subclinical; endocarditis.
