Learning outcomes for teacher beliefs and attitudes about disabilities part 2. 2 are to: Examine your own beliefs and attitudes about disabilities. Understand teacher contribution to student learning outcomes. When examining your own beliefs and attitudes you must consider your assumptions about the nature of disability and by extension, ability. Such assumptions underpin differences in the attributions that you as the teacher will make about students learning. When working with a student who makes progress, teachers are willing to take the credit---the teacher was responsible. Conversely, when a student struggles and the teacher seems unable to find a way to assist him or her to learn, the teacher may blame the student for lack of effort or ability. Even more important, your beliefs have a powerful influence on your instructional practices. The two effects at work here have been described as personal efficacy and teacher efficacy.
