The way that language is organized; the way words are strung together for meaning. In english the order of words is extremely important for understanding taught as grammar in school. Morphology = basic element of the meaning system of language. Much of the meaning of language has to be learned in the context of its use. Particularly important in english is the verb-tense system. When phonology of a language is transcribed into symbols graphophonic system. Phonological system (sounds) and orthographic system (written) are distinct, each with its own conventions. Language also varies according to the social norm register. Classroom diversity & the pragmatics of language significant differences between cultures and languages. To consider: body language e. g. eye contact, proximics, hierarchy differences in status within the culture, e. g. sweden vs. Russia: use of silence within conversation, neutral feedback zone interpreting the feedback, feedback sandwich, emotional differential.
