Dance 200: the spectrum of dance in society. What is ballet: a form/type/style of dance, involves a long period of formal training (is similar to olympic athletes training, has a set vocabulary of movements, lots of discipline required, is physically based on symmetry, curving gestures, turnout . Vertically held torso, alignment is key, posture is important. There is a set vocab of movements and gestures. The 5 positions of the feet, 1st, 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th. Ballet has a curved, circular, linear design, symmetrical body in space. If you ass is out, you have an anteriorly rotated pelvis. If you force your turnout, you can tear your acl, blow your knees, bad arches, bad ankles. You can do fourth from first, third or fifth. It was a reflection of ideas/philospohy of the way they looked at their culture at that time that swept. It was very political and came from the courts.
