Mycorrhizae: long evolutionary history of mutualistic relationship between mycorrhizae and plants, mycorrhizae help nitrogen fixing in plants (give plants nutrients, plants give mycorrhizae sugar. Benefits to plants: plants grow better, increased water absorption due to increased surface area of roots, fungi fix nitrogen, phosphorus, and micronutrients necessary for growth (often the limiting factor) Benefits to fungi: can vary, fungi gain sugar from plants, amf can actually sometimes be parasitic to plants (sometimes they don"t benefit plants when they"re there) Know this stuff: lotka-volterra models, capture efficiency, conversion rate, how prey try to avoid predation. Beta diversity: comparing the diversity among locations within a region, e. g. compare beta between the forest and field.
