Bio 208 lecture 11 wednesday, january 31, 2018. If energy gain from eating just one is greater, then it will eat just one species: want to maximize energy for effort. Natural selection and behaviour: natural selection favours those behaviours that increase the inclusive fitness of individuals. Individuals are selected for or against, which in turn causes evolution within a population: selection on behaviour occurs just like selection on physical attributes, occurs just as strongly. Inclusive fitness: hamilton (1964): survival and reproduction of an individual plus the survival and reproduction of its relatives, ways to classify behavioural interactions, positive or negative effects on either individual. Cooperation: most cooperative behaviours in nature are with two related organisms, benefits your and your relative"s fitness, greatly increases fitness and passing on your genes. Co-efficient of relatedness: you"re half similar to your siblings, niece and nephew would have a quarter of the same genetic makeup as you, grand-nieces and grand-nephews would be an eighth, etc.
