Niche: the niche was introduced first because it will be mentioned over and over again during the course, originally meant nook or cranny. In ecology, it means the set of environmental conditions (abiotic and biotic) in which an organism can survive and reproduce : survive to have offspring, have offspring to continue the species. Is the range of environmental components in which it actually lives. Resource partitioning: when different species in a community use limiting factors in different ways, i. e. they occur different realized niches. Competition: organisms tend to live where they have an advantage and can out-compete with other species, lives where it is best at out-competing its competitors . How do they coexist: resource partitioning for the cacti and grass: water, cacti can hold onto water better. They both grow in desert environments and persist.
