Mating system and sexual selection: haplodiploidy, mating systems, sexual selections, mate choice, sexual conflict. The first one is: hermaphrodites have both functions (plants, some fish). If you cannot move, it is easier to have a pollen source nearby. take advantage of this (can make one flower, receive and give pollen) It tells us how organisms act sexually in the population, how breeding occurs, and organization of the population: eg, problems like cheating happens (behavioural, you can be genetic monogamist, parents take care of their offspring. In social monogamy, parents take care of the child, but the child is not their offspring. Sexual selection: secondary sexual traits are ornamental. Intra male vs male competition, fighting to be the most wonderful organism in the group. (e. g. , moose antlers, increase in teeth length, horns) Mate choice and sexual selection: widow birds, polygynous species (one male, many females, there are no survival trade offs with having long tails (shorter tail=fewer nests).
