Albedo high albedo reflects color (snow, sand, white sand) low albedo reflects less color (black sand, any dark land) Burrows maintain temperature better than above ground. Aquatic microclimate air temperate fluctuates a lot more than water temperature. Changes in water temperature have a direct effect on organisms, also effects the organisms ability to breath. Physiology: the performance & behavioral processes of the organism. Law of toleration: performance is directly related to environmental conditions. When in their range, the organism reproduces and performs optimally. Outside of their range, organisms are performing suboptimally. Outside of their range of tolerance organisms cannot survive. The amount of energy available to each organism is limited. When energy is allocated to one function, it reduces the energy available for other functions. Allocation is balancing costs vs. benefits the cost to grow is the benefit to reproduction tradeoffs (fig 5. 13)
