So many con icts are between groups that are all practically the same ethnically but many con icts arise due to different religious beliefs: e. g. 1: former soviet union. After wwi, only remaining empire was the soviet union. Rise of communism creates a new problem: Some nationalities were given their own land to control with the right to use their own language and their own local government. We give the power and decide what goes and what doesn"t within each local government . Fteen republics were only a small sample of the diversity that existed in the soviet union. An estimated 300 - 800 different ethnic groups coexisted while only. 100 of cially recognized; purpose: groups of republics chosen by who"s the strongest, most loyal, who used to rebel or not . Each republic contained a variety of ethnic groups, most of which had no of cial recognition and few rights; purpose: try and force them to assimilate.
