Social control and religion: courts of adjudication: a third party is given the power to determine guilt or innocence and has the authority to enforce the ruling. In some cases can also determine what the punishment is going to be: the adjudicator can have the authority as mandated by the state and/or by religous beliefs. Gift that supernatural entities give them: authority derived from religious beliefs are known as trail-by-ordeal. Snake trial, have two snakes one is fed the other is not and agitated before the guilty test: during questioning the adjudicator looks to determine whether or not their guilty. It works as long as people believe it works: courts of regulation: only exist in state organized societies. Provide social control for societies with people from various cultures and/or from various social classes: enforced and interpreted by law specialists. Fairness in the judicial system: other forms of social control, rewards (money, awards, etc) for actions which go above and beyond.
